Photos and Measurements That Help With a Shed Removal Estimate

A useful estimate starts with the shed, its base, and the full route to the loading point—not one front photo.

Dismantled wooden shed panels stacked and secured beside a loading route

Start with four exterior photographs, one from each side, taken from a safe distance. Add a doorway view of the interior only when the structure is stable enough to approach. The goal is to show construction, condition, attachments, and the space available around the shed.

Measure the structure and the route

Record the approximate width, depth, wall height, and roof peak. Then measure the narrowest gate, the tightest side-yard point, and any turn between the shed and the driveway. A shed can be modest in size while its access route controls how every panel leaves the yard.

Photo set to prepare

  • Front, back, and both sides of the shed
  • Roof condition from ground level
  • Inside floor and wall framing when safe to view
  • Base, anchors, blocks, skids, or slab edge
  • Gate, narrow side yard, turns, steps, and surface changes
  • Final driveway or legal loading position

Describe what photographs do not show

List the shed material, approximate age when known, active or uncertain utility connections, stored contents, attached lean-tos or shelves, visible rot or corrosion, and whether the structure has shifted or partially collapsed. Do not enter an unstable shed for a better picture.

Keep the scope boundaries visible

State whether the quote should cover the shed only, its contents, the floor system, blocks or anchors, and any concrete slab. These are separate scope questions. The City of Albuquerque says its convenience centers do not accept construction or demolition debris, so ordinary household drop-off should not be assumed to cover shed material. Check the current City trash drop-off guidance before planning self-haul.

Safety note: do not disturb unknown material for a photo. EPA advises that asbestos cannot be identified by sight alone and recommends trained assessment when suspect material may be disturbed.
